In this scene, no teacher is needed to command the children to do anything that they learn the targeted English expression. Children interest comes out automatically without giving them a single command in this way. But then will the children learn English by this way? In fact, it’s persuasive, enjoyable, no classroom rule is necessary to give, and we can see immediate attention given to the screen. Using moving animation and pictures, appropriate coloring pictures for short phrases and their meanings and adventuring new things in the classroom using available technology will also make students a better learner of English without giving commands by the teachers.
Commanding children in one way is useful when particular students who disobey the classroom rules intentionally. It’s very rare to see such students in a small classroom and we can often see such disobedient students in classroom that has more than 15, 35, 50 or even more. As a result, we can confirm that persuade is better than command. If there is no persuasive option at all, then can the teacher use commanding the students to do what the teacher wants them to do.
4.4. Lesson Plan Or Teaching Methodology
Should an English teacher follow only one methodology in details without any elements being left and then go for another? The creator of a methodology might want teachers to use his creation in details but what the English teacher should know is if the method suits your class. However good the teaching methodology it maybe, if the lesson plan hadn’t provided the right activity to follow up the target language it would still be just a teaching English class without learning anything. Teaching method can make the lesson plan successful but in my opinion, lesson plan is more important than the method in teaching English class for short term teacher. But for permanent English teacher, the whole methodology can be completely included in the design of the whole lesson plan or syllabus. It is important that a teacher of English should know how long his or her teaching schedule will last for a particular class. In China, I sometimes had to teach only 15 classes for one semester, which is not enough to make use of a whole set of teaching methodology as listed in this TESOL lesson.
I have learned that it is important to finish all the important activities in the beginning of the lesson because they lose concentration easily and their thoughts wander. For this reason, lessons should be dynamic, with many activities. Children usually like songs and stories. Most of them enjoy drawing and colouring activities, but one of their favourite activities is the classroom theatre when they are given a chance to act. Even those extremely shy children are encouraged to be a part of this. As lesson plan is important, teacher should include all the necessary items in the lesson to satisfy students for the optimum success of their learning.
