Objectives : a) To practice using multi-part verbs ( be into, catch up with, fall behind, get on with,
get together, go into, go on to, go over, put off, set up, take up).
b) To be able to disagreeing and contradict-ing politely. Focus language ( I don’t
agree/ Not really/ Not necessarily/ I don’t think so/ Perhaps, but../ I’m not so sure./ I
suppose so, but../ Don’t exaggerate./ No, it isn’t).
c) To be able to listen and do exercises in the textbook at the same time.
Prior Knowledge : Students must finish studying lesson 25 and 26 of Module 7.
Warm Up : Put the key words in appropriate category and then make sentences on your own with a partner and
sync them together in order to make a paragraph. (10-15 minutes)
Types of School: Private school, state school
Facilities : Ficility
Activities : choir, school trip
Action : secondary at name.
Action : Rules
Assessment : homework, assessment.
E.g. We've got three science laboratories in our school. Give them one or two examples
I don't think I'd like to go to a boarding school.
Method : Listen to teacher's eduction for the meaning of multi-part verbs or phrasal verbs written in
objectives (b) above. (15 minutes)
And then fill in the blank.
1. If you fell behind with your work, they'd go over it with you.
2. They'd help you catch up with your work at weekends.
3. If you got on with your work, you were OK.
4. At weekends, we used to get together and go into town.
5. I took up swimming - there was a club after school.
6. When I first started, I put off studying for weeks!
7. In the end, I went on to do computer studies at university.
8. Most kids were into football, but I wasn't interested in sport.
9. We set up the school's first web page.
After checking students' answer, play the recording (Module7/27Ex3) for students to listen and
identify who said the sentence 1-9.
Practical Listening : Listen to two students discussing two schools. Match the opinions 1 to 9 with the replies a to i in
the column below. ( 15 minutes)
Disagreeing and contradicting politely.
1. I think it would be great. a. I don't agree
2. You'd fall behind with your studies. b. Not really.
3. She must have learnt something at school. c. I don't think so.
4. I'm sure most students would just do nothing. d. Perhaps, but ...
5. That must be awful. e. I'm not so sure.
6. That's probably better, isn't it? f. Not necessarily
7. I think we've too much homework. g. I suppose so, but .......
8. We have to do some works at home. h. Don't exaggerate.
9. That's awful. i. No, it isn't.
Listen and repeat the expressions.
Oral Practice :Now work in pairs. Try to contradict everything your partner says! Use the expressions in
the second column from a to i. Think and talk about the advantages and disadvantages of
1. boarding schools, 2. school rules and punishments, 3. homework and exams. (20 minutes)
For instance:
A. I think boarding schools are bad because it's better to be with your family.
B. I don't think so. They teach you to be independent.
A. Perhaps, but ........................
