Objectives : a) To learn about the five elements of literature: character, setting, plot, theme and point of
view. Due to limited time for the class, not all elements may be covered in one class hour.
b) To be able to define the elements of literature. Read “One is One and All Alone” and
analyze it for the elements of literature. Understand new vocabulary: genre, analyze, theme,
plot, protagonist, antagonist, gallant, moral value and soliloquy.
Previous Knowledge : Students must read the whole story and hand in a mini synopsis about 150 words on “One is
One is All Alone”.
Warm Up : Two students have to come to the front and read the conversation between VP and Trish.
Students must change voices to make the reading more interesting. ( 15 minutes)
Method : Teacher will read the synopsis and students have to look at the screen to visualize the
presentation. And then teacher will explain the importance of Participial Phrases that helps a
lot in writing synopsis.
Students’ Task : Practice how to join two sentences into one, using the method of joining Participial
Phrases. Do the three questions that you see on the screen. ( 10 minutes)
Visualize the story : Watch the first video clip what Trion and Spaceship look like. (5 minutes)
Watch the second video clip and get to know what cloning is all about. (5 minutes)
Accommodations : The purpose of learning English literature (Power Point presentation) Explain “character,
setting, plot, theme and point of view” literally as well as textually. (10 minutes)
Closure : Review ideas discussed. Students must work in groups of 5 and apply what they've learned
to the text to explain the PLOT and CHARACTER of the story.(in-class activity)

Evaluation : This is only an initial lesson. More lessons on this topic should be provided before any
measure of progress can be seen.
Homework : Trish is feeling lonely on board the spaceship. Her father is too busy handling matters
regarding the spaceship. Imagine you are Trish and you decided to write an email your
mother on planet Trion to explain about your situation and seek her advice.
