Objectives : a) To practice listening skill.
b) To practice using linking expressions and question tags.
c) To be able to describe a person inclusively.
Previous knowledge : Students have already attained the knowledge of speculating others.
Method : Warm Up Session- Play “Who am I?”. Use “Are you..? questions. (10 minutes)
Listen to a programme. Which of these people are not mentioned?
Shakespeare, Leonardo da Vinci, Chopin, Michelangelo, Einstein, Copernicus,
Aristotle, Churchill, Bach, the Bronte sisters, Newton, Strauss, Mozart.
Listen again and match the sentences 1 to 10 with the people: Dr.Hofmeyer(H),
Carlo Rossi ®, or both (B). See page 77 listening exercise 3&4). (15 minutes)
Work in pairs. This is discussing a photo session. “Practice makes perfect” is
the motto of oral English class. Use only English.
Turn to page 76 of your textbook and look at the two photos.
Describe the places and the photos, speculate about the people: how old they are;
what they do; where they are now; what the relationship is between them, what
their mood is. Speculate about what has happened in the future and interact with
your partner in English (e.g. The boy looks kind, don’t you think?).Discuss your
opinions of the people’s clothes and decide if you would like to meet them.
(15 minutes)
Question tags patterns: When you discuss about a topic with your friends use the
following sentences at all.
1. The boy looks kind, doesn’t he?
2. He is like a girl, isn’t he?
3. She isn’t beautiful, is she?
4. He is a bad-tempered person, isn’t he?
Read and remember this questions.
1. What does she look like? (She’s sort and thin with short, white hair and clear,
blue eyes. She wears lipstick.)
2. What does she like? (She likes children and animals, especially dogs.)
3. What is she like? (She’s cheerful generous and helpful.) (10 minutes)
Brainstorming session. Students, call out some linking words ( subordinating
conjunctions) such as because also, except, for example, etc…
Homework : Describe a person and write some notes in a form of diagrams. Write three
Paragraphs about him or her . Use linking words. Check your description for
mistakes. Who would be the most interesting person to meet?
Due date for homework submission is coming Monday.
