Objectives : a) To practice personality adjectives, multi-part verbs.
b) To practice describing people, using “always” and the Present Continuous”
c) To distinguish between “to look like”, “to like” and “to be like.”
Previous knowledge : Students have already attained how to describe the personality of three different
pictures by submitting homework i.e. a 100-word composition.
Method : Warm Up Session- Play “I Spy”. Use “Are you….? questions. (10 minutes)
Brainstorming session- tell personality adjectives. Teacher is going to write the
words that students call out on the board.
Write vocabulary like bad-tempered, cheerful, confident, creative, shy, unsociable,
selfish, insensitive, persistent, sympathetic, etc. Students, you must remember the use
of prefixes to make opposites of adjectives (Ref. Lesson 21). e.g. creative-uncreative,
critical-uncritical, helpful-unhelpful, honest-dishonest, patient-impatient, reliable-
unreliable, selfish-unselfish, sociable-unsociable, sympathetic-unsympathetic,tolerant-
intolerant. (10 minutes)
Learn question patterns 1. What is he like? 2.What does he like?
3.What does he look like?
Do exercise 10 with a partner to practice conversation asking questions and answers to
differentiate “like to”, “to look like”, and “to be like”. (5 minutes)
Students! add new words to your list in vocabulary books. Write a few sentences
about yourself. Then read out your sentences to your partner and see if he/she agrees
with the description of yourself. Exchange your writing with your partner to analyze
and tell the class whether you agree with your partner’s statement ,and adduce it.
(10 minutes)
Learn this theory i.e. different shapes of chocolate which will help you to speculate
others better. If you choose…….
A diamond-shaped chocolate- you are probably materialistic and interest in money.
A triangle-shaped chocolate - you are likely insensitive and doesn’t care about other
people’s feelings.
A Rounded-shaped chocolate- you’re sociable.
An oval-shaped chocolate - you’re creative.
A rectangular-shaped chocolate- you’re sensitive.
A spiral-shaped chocolate - you’re dynamic but disorganized.
A square-shaped chocolate - you’re and honest and reliable. (5 minute)
Read multi-part verbs below.
Get-down = depress, give up = stop trying, get on with = continue doing something.
Get on with = has a good relationship with, get together = meet, take up = start doing,
Getting at = criticizing, put up with = tolerate. Now go to page 74, Module 6 of your
text book and match the verbs with multi-part verbs. Do exercise 8, page 75 and page
58, Intermediate Language Power book exercise No.1 and No.2. (10 minutes)
Homework : Dictation- write the composition exactly as the teacher dictates. Find out all the
mistakes and correct them. Put or remove punctuations like commas, full stop, etc. in
appropriate places.
Rewrite the composition below to describe a famous person.
Although not very popular with the crowds(,) one of the most famous person (personalities) in the world of Computer Science is Richard Stallman. No definitely (Definitely not) attractive or charming(,) he is a tall and rather overweight man in his mid fifties. He has (got) a round face and brown long hair which he wears loose and plays around with while talking. He is always dressed casually with a large T-Shirt(.) I have never seen him dressed in an elegant suit.
He is a rather shy and reserved person(,) but when it comes to his beliefs he becomes very confident. He has strong views about software and sometimes gets carried away in public talks, and tends to become aggressive when defending his ideas. As computers become more and more predominant, in our lives(,) he believes that software should be free to use and study for every one.
