Objectives : -To practise reported questions.
-To get to know how to translate the meaning of to be granted asylum, and the
difference between political refugees and economic refugees.
-To learn the use of if / whether
Warm Up :Think that you are going to interview an asylum seeker from another country.
Remember you are a local and finding out the person whether he or she is a political
refugees or economic refugees. And decide whether the person is to be granted asylum
in your country. Make as many questions as possible. List all the questions. Refer New
Opportunities pg.108 if you have any problem in understanding how to make questions
and give answers.
After listing all your questions, choose a partner and work in pair. You are the local
who is going to interview the foreigner. Your partner is asylum seeker. Re-arrange your
questions in 5 minutes and start asking your questions to your partner. (25 minutes)
Listening Practice : Listen to the interview with Jose Luis on the left. Complete the gaps. And report how
Jose Luis suffered from "culture shock" when he first arrived in Ireland. (10 minutes)
Change the speech : Read exercise 10, pg. 109 and write the original questions. Write your answer in your
grammar notebook. (15 minutes)
Match the Answer : Match 1-6 with A-E. (10 minutes)
